AI products often fail in the interface long before they fail in the model. Users abandon tools that feel unpredictable, opaque, or impossible to correct.
Most AI products are designed for the happy path.
That is the problem. Models are probabilistic. They stall, guess, and fail. If your UI only supports perfect output, every imperfect moment feels like a product bug.
Design for processing, confidence, correction, and failure as first-class states — not afterthoughts. When uncertainty is communicated clearly, trust goes up even when the model is wrong.
Useful AI feels collaborative. Annoying AI feels like a black box with a spinner.
